CHAIN: New EU4Health Project Launches to Advance Artificial Intelligence in Cardiovascular Care

26 Oct 2026

The European Heart Network (EHN) is pleased to be part of CHAIN (European Cardiovascular Health Data and AI Network), a new €20 million initiative funded by the EU4Health Programme to accelerate the safe, effective and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in cardiovascular healthcare across Europe.

Bringing together 53 partners from 20 European countries, the three-year project will develop a European ecosystem for testing and validating AI solutions, supporting earlier disease detection, improved clinical decision-making and better cardiovascular health outcomes.

Aligned with the EU Safe Hearts Plan and the European Health Data Space (EHDS), CHAIN will contribute to making AI-driven cardiovascular care more accessible, trustworthy and equitable across Europe.

Putting patients at the centre of AI innovation

As a project partner, EHN will coordinate the Patient Advisory Group, ensuring that patients’ needs, experiences and perspectives are meaningfully reflected throughout the project.

EHN will also contribute to discussions on human oversight and responsible AI use, helping ensure that innovation in cardiovascular care is developed with patients, not just for them.

Through its involvement in CHAIN, EHN continues its commitment to advancing patient-centred research, responsible digital innovation and equitable cardiovascular healthcare across Europe.
