The European Heart Network (EHN) is looking for an experienced and motivated Manager Patients and Research to support our mission in promoting cardiovascular health, advocating for patients, and reducing the impact of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) across Europe.

Report to: EHN Chief Executive Officer
Location: Brussels (Belgium)

About the Role

The Manager, Patients and Research will work closely with EHN’s patient member organisations to strengthen their capacity and enhance the support they provide to heart and stroke patients. The successful candidate will also represent EHN in the European Medicines Agency (EMA) Patients’ and Consumers’ Working Party and collaborate with stakeholders across the European healthcare landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

Evaluating and responding to partnership requests in research projects.

Engaging with the EHN patients’ group and patient consultants’ network to ensure active interaction through meetings, seminars, and other information exchanges.

Establishing priority issues for EHN papers and positions, gathering an evidence base, and identifying research gaps.

Monitoring and analysing developments at the EU level, including initiatives and legislative proposals impacting heart and stroke patients, and preparing EHN responses/statements.

Coordinating EHN’s responses to EU legislative proposals affecting patients and research.

Liaising with EHN’s research-funding members, fostering interaction through the EHN Research Platform.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant university degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in EU policy.
  • In-depth knowledge of EU health policies, particularly those affecting patient rights and cardiovascular health.
  • Experience with membership organisations (NGOs) and a clear understanding of “How Brussels Works.”
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong sense of diplomacy.
  • Flexibility, patience, and persistence, with the ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Experience in an international, multicultural environment is advantageous.
  • Language skills: Fluent English (mother tongue level or equivalent); French is useful, with other European languages being an asset.
