The EU4Health Civil Society Alliance expresses concerns about restrictions on civil society’s activities in the new mandate

10 Feb 2025

The EU4Health Civil Society Alliance, representing over 30 health-focused civil society organisations (CSOs) across Europe, has expressed concerns over new restrictions under the EU LIFE programme. These restrictions prevent CSOs from using LIFE operating grants for policy and advocacy activities targeting EU policymakers, potentially limiting their role in policy-making and reducing diverse perspectives in the debate. This could set a worrying precedent for other sectors, including health.

The Alliance calls on the EU to reconsider the restrictions placed on the LIFE programme, ensuring that civil society can continue to participate fully in policy-making processes. It also urges the EU to provide transparency and a clear timeline for the publication of the 2025 EU4Health Work Programme, so that CSOs can effectively plan for the future and continue their vital work in shaping EU policy.
