EHN response to the public consultation on the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD)

30 Apr 2026

The European Heart Network (EHN) has contributed to the European Commission’s public consultation on the evaluation and revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD).

In its response, EHN emphasised the need to strengthen the protection of public health, particularly for children and young people, in the evolving digital media landscape. EHN highlighted key priorities including addressing the growing influence of digital marketing and influencers, improving the regulation of harmful products such as tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy foods, and ensuring that children are effectively protected from both direct and indirect marketing practices.

EHN also called for clearer rules on emerging forms of advertising, stronger regulatory measures beyond voluntary codes, and better alignment of the AVMSD with existing EU legislation to ensure a high level of consumer and health protection.
