Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence

Digital innovation in health, such as telemedicine and artificial intelligence (AI) tools, can improve patients’ experience along the entire care pathway including the diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular conditions.

EHN advocates for ambitious policies that ensure equal access to innovation and public investment in programmes aimed at improving health and digital literacy to tackle inherent inequalities.

EHN funded a research paper in 2020 called, What is the value of digital tools for cardiovascular patients? offers an overview of existing evidence on the effectiveness of digital tools for primary and secondary prevention, heart failure management, home-hospitalisation for heart failure patients, diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias and remote monitoring of cardiac implantable devices. In addition, the paper addresses the potential of big data and artificial intelligence in cardiology to personalise disease detection and treatment, develop new medicines, stratify patients and improve clinical trials and reduce costs for research.

The European Health Data Space

EHN welcomes the European Health Data Space (EHDS) proposal, one of the central building blocks for a strong European Health Union. EHN closely monitors and engages in the development of the proposal through the European Parliament and Council of the European Union to ensure that the great potential the use of health data holds is harnessed for good and respects the rights of the people behind the data.

EHN submitted its feedback to the Commission’s consultation on its European Health Data Space (EHDS) legislative proposal and our feedback paper elaborates further on EHN’s views and recommendations put forward.

EHN closely monitors and engages in the development of the proposal through the European Parliament and Council of the European Union to ensure that the great potential the use of health data holds is harnessed for good and respects the rights of the people behind the data.
