The European Heart Network has submitted its response to the European Medicines Agency’s survey on Patient Experience Data (PED), which seeks to understand how patients’ perspectives are gathered and used across therapeutic areas.
In its submission, EHN highlights ongoing shortcomings in incorporating patient perspectives into cardiovascular research, medicine development, regulatory assessment and reimbursement decisions. While the EMA has made progress, patient input still does not sufficiently shape clinical programmes or treatment evaluation. EHN calls for a stronger patient-centred approach, greater involvement of healthcare professionals and enhanced EU-level support for cardiovascular innovation.
EHN also underlines the challenges of collecting comparable patient experience data across the cardiovascular field, noting the need for harmonised yet flexible methods that capture the nuances of patients’ experiences. Improved tools, stronger collaboration between stakeholders and targeted support for smaller patient organisations are essential to strengthen PED and ensure it meaningfully informs research, regulation and policy.
