The public health community mourns the death of John Ryan, former DG SANTE Deputy Director General

After years of collaboration with our network, the passing of John Ryan deeply saddens us. As the former DG SANTE Deputy Director General, his contribution to the EU4Health Strategy and his efforts to the development of EU policies in public health, particularly non-communicable diseases, will always be remembered and cherished. 

The European Heart Network (EHN)  joined the shared joint obituary from the EU Civil Society Alliance EU4Health:

John’s legacy within our community spans an incredible 25 years, during which
his tireless dedication has left an indelible mark on our collective pursuit of
better health for all. John played a central and indispensable role in the EU’s
solution-oriented approach to health and in shaping the development and
implementation of a true #HealthUnion. A pivotal figure and ally in our
endeavours, he enriched our collaborative efforts and guided us towards
meaningful change. His legacy will endure in the very fabric of our work.
