The European Heart Network (EHN) congratulates the European Parliament’s Environment Committee and its rapporteur, Linda McAvan, for the vote today on the Tobacco Products Directive.

Ireland and Lithuania, the outgoing and incoming Presidencies of the Council of the European Union respectively, reaffirmed last week their strong support to the revised EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD).

Death rates from heart disease in the European Union have more than halved in many countries since the early 1980s, according to new research published online today (26 June 2013) in the European Heart Journal.

Today, 21 June 2013,  the Health Council of Ministers came to an agreement on a general approach on the Tobacco Products Directive.
